Michael Fisher, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Coldwell Banker, talks to SEO-PR President Greg Jarboe about the success of Coldwell Banker’s viral marketing campaigns. Fisher is very happy with their YouTube channel, and how it energized their network by showcasing what video can do for them. Fisher says that the future of real estate will involve video because it’s fairly simple to get started and to organize the campaign. Fisher gives as an example of a successful video campaign the test case of a woman from Salem MA, who has a bubbly personality and is perfect for video. Her onscreen talking about the property not only makes the property feel better, but also gives the potential consumer the essence of what she is going to be like and how she can help market her property. She also has a great video bumper that she uses for all her video listings. Its a coffee mug on the beach on Boston’s north shore with seagulls in the background, she picks up the mug takes a spit and puts it back down, all you see is the mug with a little lip mark on it, and she says ‘That’s why I live in New England’. Videos like that get the viewer excited about moving to the area, and when she comes in and tells you about the property, you are sold 10 seconds into the video.

Brian Fetherstonhaugh, Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy One, discusses with John Mulligan of SEO-PR how external marketing agencies and in-house marketers have to be their own advocates to sell a search program. Even though the search marketing industry is doing great, it will never fulfill its potential until search gets squarely on the agenda of Fortune 1000 CMO’s. Worldwide, there is only about 1,000 CMO’s at the top companies that spend all the money and shape the marketing industry, but unfortunately search is not on appropriately featured on their agenda. While there are some CMO’s spending money on search, search is not their priority. Fetherstonhaugh believes that the industry needs to make search a priority in order to shape the future. Anybody in the company who is a enthusiast and a believer of search, no matter where they are on the corporate ladder, should speak the language of the CMO, enlightening them on the capabilities/profits search can bring to a company. This is done by looking a the whole customer journey, and establishing the crucial role search can play in the overall process.

We tried something new, brought in the DMA; the Online Marking Institute, whom we work with on the ClickZ side in our Online Marketing Summit Series; we brought in the Web Analytics ociation, Jim Sterne’s organization, to do some analysis training and analytics training; as well as Bruce Clay, whose sessions are always popular. Tomorrow we added a sixth track — some would call it a separate conference — all around social media, brought to you by YouTube and Google, along with ClickZ. This way you have your five regular search engine marketing tracks as well as your social media marketing track. Additionally, we went into overdrive this time and brought in executive-level marketing heavyweights this time. We have 100 plus exhibitors, starting Wednesday, on the expo floor, with every search marketing agency and technical solutions provider you could ever want to meet. Finally, we added a local search marketing track on Thursday in partnership with Jason Calacanis and his own event series. After all the open sessions, we have our Friday search marketing training workshops, in which marketing professionals get down into the nitty-gritty on a specific search engine marketing subject with a small group of students for several hours. The makeup of our attendee population is shifting, too. We have seen more Fortune 1000 companies show up every show, and you can see them educating themselves in the practices of search engine marketing in order to better work with their agencies, to know how to ask the right questions and to better understand the marketing plans.
